Die Herkunft des prägnanten Namens Gottschelle ist nicht eindeutig belegbar, vermutlich aber bezieht sie sich auf einen Ausdruck aus dem Voralpenland, wo „Goetschen“ den scharfen Vorsprung eines Bergrückens beschreibt und 1341 als “Gotschalich” ertmals urkundlich erwähnt wurde. Der Boden ist vom lehm-haltigen Löss geprägt. In tieferen Bodenschichten dominieren Horizonte aus Schotter. Die Weinstöcke sind zwischen 15 und 50 Jahre alt. ..The origin of the name Gottschelle cannot be clearly determined, but it is assumed that it comes from the Alpine regions, where ‘Goetschen’ describes the pointed protrusion of a mountain crest. First documented 1341 as “Gotschalich”. The soil is characterized by loess containing clay. In the deeper soil layers, horizons made of gravel dominate. The vines here are between 15 and 50 years old, and yield concentrated wines with excellent potential for cellaring. The Grüner Veltliner ‘Gottschelle’ is a regionally typical wine with remarkable character.
